Achieving an instant glow does not have to involve forking out on expensive creams and potions. Or so say the many that swear by natural remedies for beautiful skin.

One cream for your eyes, another for that small patch of sensitive skin on your chin and the pesky pores. Looking after your skin can be an ardorous task and an expensive one at that.

It is for this reason why more people are looking at traditional and natural methods for skin care.

Here are some of the more commonly used home remedies;

  • Honey and Lemon. Both work as a natural bleacher, thus making your skin looking radiant instantly. Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice and one tablespoon of honey. Apply to your skin and leave for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Oats. Oats work as a great scrubber. Take half a cup of oats and add a little warm water to it, allowing it to form a thick paste. Leave it for five minutes, and then apply to your face. Gently rub and massage it in a circular motion with your fingers. Wash off with cold water.
  • Tomatoes. Tomatoes contain natural bleaching properties, which helps to lighten the skin colour. Rub the tomato pulp on your skin and leave it for 15 minutes.
  • Ice Cubes. Rub an ice cube on your face to improve blood circulation.
  • Green Apples. Apply the pulp of a green apple to your skin. This makes your skin radiant, and also helps circulate the blood too.
  • Olive Oil. Take a few drops of olive oil and apply it to your cheekbones. You can also use coconut oil.
  • Sugar. Mix sugar, lemon juice and olive oil to create a scrubber. The olive oil will moisten your skin, sugar will remove dead cells, and lemon juice will naturally bleach the skin.
