Beauty | Permanent Make-Up: What you need to know

Permanent make-up may sound like the perfect solution for those that don’t want the hassle of putting on creams and potions each morning, but is it really worth it?

We spend two hours of our life putting on and taking off our make-up. That is a lot of time that we could be spending doing many other things.

It is for this reason why many time-starved people opt for permanent make-up. While it seems the most logical and efficient way to ensure you look groomed every day, there are many things you need to consider before you make that investment.

So, what does it involve? Permanent make-up is a cosmetic technique which uses permanent pigmentation of the dermis as a means of producing designs that resemble make-up, such as eyelining and other enhancing colours to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids.

Now that more salons are offering permanent make-up options, there are many variations in price. However, be warned. Just because it is cheaper than other places, this does not always mean it is any good. Always do your research on providers, and ideally choose someone based on personal recommendations.

You should be told to come back to see your technician after about four to six weeks. You will also need a ‘touch-up’ after the healing process has been completed.

Over time, your face will be exposed to elements and so there will be some natural fading. To keep it longer you should apply sunscreen every day and avoid any exfoliates on your face over the make-up area.

Unfortunately, if you do not like your permanent make-up, getting rid of it is hard work. Laser tattoo removal isn’t that reliable and requires multiple treatments, and generally only fades rather than completely removing them.
