Celebrities may like marriage like we love a good bargain, but many of them are leaving it to later in life to finally settling down…for a while anyway.

It’s not only the Irish that are waiting until they are older to tie the knot. However, unlike the celebrities, we tend to stay married for considerably longer. Perhaps, it is for this reason why more are waiting to find love later in life and make that huge commitment.

After her very public split with Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston was in no hurry to rush down the aisle again. At 46, she married Justin Theroux at their Bel Air mansion earlier this year.

Her good friend and presenter Ellen DeGeneres was 50 years old when she married her longtime love Portia De Rossi in 2008.

Looking very much the English rose bride on her wedding day, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, aged 42, married Christian Horner in May of this year.

While the pressure must be significant to marry a princess, Prince Albert of Monaco waited until he was 53 before he married South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock.

She may be the star of many rom coms and had a string of star boyfriends, but Cameron Diaz finally found her own happy ending when she married Benji Madden. She was 42 years old when she tied the knot in a secret ceremony at her LA home last January.

The ever-youthful Elton John was 66 when he married his longtime love David Furnish on the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership in December 2014.

Once the world’s most eligible bachelor, George Clooney, was 53 when he married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Ireland’s own long-term eligible bachelor, Daniel O’Donnell, broke the hearts of many women when he married Majella McLennan in 2002.

Love, as they say, has no age limit.
