Kilkenny Shop shines a spotlight on Irish craft and fashion

Kilkenny Shop has been the largest promoter of Irish design for more than 50 years, and once a year they celebrate this dedication to Irish during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, which takes place from 1-9 October 2016.

This nationwide campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the very best of Irish design, honouring home-grown talent and the vast range created in Ireland, from pottery to crystal, handmade jewellery and fashion.

A number of new initiatives are taking place this year during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, including a mentoring session for up-and-coming designers and design students, an Emerging Ceramic Design competition, in-store craft demonstrations and free vouchers.

On October 6th, from 4-8pm, the Kilkenny shop on Nassau Street, Dublin, will be hosting a mentoring session for up and coming designers. In these sessions, designers will have a chance to meet with some of their established suppliers and their buying departments for some expert advice on how to sell their products, marketing and trends.

Kilkenny Shop have also partnered with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) Ceramics Skills & Design Course in Co. Kilkenny to find Ireland’s Best Emerging Ceramic Designer.  Four finalists were chosen earlier in the year and they have all been given the opportunity to showcase their crafts in Kilkenny Shop’s flagship Nassau Street store in Dublin during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week.

The ceramic designers have given prominent window displays on the shop front, and they have also been given the fantastic opportunity to sell their products instore for the week alongside well known Irish designers like Orla Kiely, Rebeka Kahn, John Rocha, and Nicholas Mosse.  This is a huge honour as Kilkenny Shop is at the epicentre of creativity and Irish design.

At the end of the week, one student will be selected as the overall winner of a €1,000 bursary.

On September 30th until October 7th, there will also be in store craft demonstrations from 12pm until 4pm, where you will have the chance to watch life demonstrations with the finalists of the Emerging Ceramic Design Competition.

As a further incentive to shop Irish during the week, Kilkenny Shop is offering all customers a free €20 voucher when they spend €75 or more – the offer is available in store until October 9th and can be redeemed until October 23.
