While there are specific foods that we all should eat to suit our diet and health, women have their own set of requirements to help functioning and well being.

A well-rounded, healthy eating plan is obviously the key to long-term well being. There are, however, some foods that every woman should incorporate into their own eating plan.

Studies have shown that there are strong links between consuming cranberries and reduced risks of breast cancer and heart disease. They are also known to prevent and cure urinary tract infections such as cystitis, a condition that is more likely to occur in women than men.

Tomatoes are also beneficial thanks to its pigment lycopene. This pigment is known to be effective in preventing breast cancer, while it is also known to be a powerful antioxidant which can help reduce risk of heart disease.

Butternut squash, meanwhile, is packed with carotenoids which helps fight the risks of both breast and ovarian cancer.

Flax seeds are also essential as they are a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids and have been linked to reduce breast cancer and heart disease. The seeds are also good for preventing arthritis, while their digestive benefits can help irritable bowel syndrome.

We all know eating fish is good for us. But what fish is best for you? Salmon is rich in iron but is also packed with omega-3 fatty acids, known for their mood enhancing effects.  

Magnesium is essential for women in that it helps reduce many of the physical symptoms of PMS, including bloating and swelling. Spinach is one of the best sources of magnesium that you can add to your diet.

Figs are particularly beneficial to women’s health as they are high in iron and calcium, which is important for post-menopausal women who are more more prone to osteoporosis.
