Foods that will give us energy during the afternoon slump

We all know that 3pm feeling. Our shoulders start to hurt, our eyes are heavy and we’ve read the same sentence three times in a row to no avail. It’s the slump and the options for a pick me up are few and far between. But there are foods we can reach for in the afternoon (besides a cup of coffee) that will give us the pick me up we need to make it to hometime.

Almonds make a great boosting snack. They’re one of the most nutrient-rich nuts, packed full of Vitamin E and Magnesium and contain lots of protein to help you sustain energy throughout the day.

Chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, both of which will boost your energy levels. The darker the chocolate the less sugar and the more energy-boosting potential it has.

Omega-3 fatty acids can elevate your mood and even protect against depression. Salmon is loaded with these kinds of fatty acids and is a great snack on a cracker with a cup of tea.

They might not sound the most appealing at 3 in the afternoon, but leafy vegetables like spinach are packed with iron that help you feel more energetic. Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of iron deficiency and spinach is full of it. Iron promotes red blood cell circulation, which in turn helps you feel more alert and improves concentration levels.
