Health | What is stopping you from exercising?

Time, money, health and lack of motivation are often the main reasons why we do not make any time to exercise. So, is there a way to get over these stumbling blocks?

When you work late and still have to go home, do chores and get the children sorted, exercise is often the last thing on your mind. Any little spare time you do have is often spent doing more chores or catching up with family and friends.

While you may not be able to dedicate a chunk of to exercise, why not be more astute and clinical when you are running and racing around? Invest in a pedometer and aim to achieve 10,000 steps a day. Take the stairs at work instead of the lift, get off one stop earlier on the bus or train or walk to the shop with the kids. All these extra little movements will help you in the end.

Thankfully, doing housework also consumes a lot of calories so keep cleaning!

If possible, aim to get up 20 to 30 minutes earlier. If you do not have the time to go a gym, why not invest in a fitness DVD. A quick early morning workout from the comfort of your home will set you up for the day. This option is also favourable when you love the outdoors but our indifferent climes stops you from getting out.

The discount shops regularly stock affordable fitness equipment, such as weights. Invest in a few pieces if you want to focus on key areas of your body, such as arms.

If you lack motivation to exercise, get a fitness buddy to join you for walks or a trip to the gym. Make a vow that they will push you on those days when you just want to go home and curl up on the couch.
