Life Hacks: Removing Ink Stains from Clothes
We have the solution for you!
Ah the dreaded ink stain; possibly one of the worst sights to see on an item of clothing – especially if it’s one of your favourites. But don’t worry, it doesn’t necessarily mean the garment is ruined beyond all repair. Here is a simple, but effective, way to remove ink stains from your clothes.
Try it and see if it works for you!
You will need:
- Aerosol hairspray
- Laundry detergent
Step one:
Using the hairspray, spray the stain very well with this. While normally the more premium brands can sometimes be better to use on your hair, this time the cheaper versions are actually more effective as they contain a higher alcohol content.
Step two:
Let the hairspray soak into the stain for a small amount of time, being careful not to let it dry in completely. This allows the chemicals in the hairspray to get into the stain and hopefully lift it from the clothes.
Step three:
Put the item into the washing machine right away and wash using the laundry detergent.
Step four:
Let the item dry naturally in the air so that you can be sure the stain is completely gone and once it is, you can return to washing the item as normal.
Top Tips:
- For the best chance of removing the stain it’s advisable to get to work on removing it as soon as you can.
- You’ll most likely have both of these products in a press at home anyway, so you’ll know where to find them when you’re in a hurry.
- Test the stain removal process on a small patch of the item that isn’t very noticeable like an inside seam, before tackling the stain itself, as the colour of the fabric may be effected.
