Lifestyle | Enjoy a spa treatment…in your home

Spa treatments are the ultimate indulgence but very few of us can afford that little luxury every month. There are a few treatments you can do in your home to save you the cash and time.

When it comes to escaping from the world, a spa treatment is often the first thing we long for. Unfortunately, getting the time and money together for such regular indulgence is an obstacle most of us face.

At-home spa treatments may not sound the most luxurious, but they can be the quick beauty fix and ‘pick me up’ that you need after a long week at work. And it is the small things that can make a huge difference, to your skin and mind.

The warmth of spa products on our skin is the feeling we long for. To replicate this in the home, simply place your body lotion on top of a radiator or heating vent. Once you get out of the shower, rub on the heated, soothing lotion.

A homemade sugar scrub can help rejuvenate and give a much needed glow to your skin. Mix one cup of brown sugar, raw oatmeal and olive oil. Apply on to dry skin and gently blend in slow circles. Laze about your candle-lit bathroom and read a magazine before washing it all off in the shower.

Give yourself a steam treatment by heating a small pot of water. Add a few drops of essential oils, such as lavender or rose oil. Drape a towel over the back of your head and hold your head over the pot to allow the steam to caress your face. Your face should feel very warm, but not uncomfortably hot.

Give your feet a well-earned break with a foot soak. Mix in half a cup of mouthwash, vinegar and water and pour into a basin.

While you are enjoying your foot soak, sip on mint and lemon infused water. While you feel refreshed, your skin will also thank you for the drink.
