Flight delays, baggage issues and trying to entertain yourself and your travelling party can lead to a not so happy start to your holidays.

Stress and travelling seem to go hand-in-hand. From having to scour websites to get the best deals on flights and accommodation to airport drama, organising and experiencing a trip away can be testing.

But it need not be. Once you book everything online or with a travel agent, create a folder on your desktop and save all related files. Print two copies and email a copy to yourself. If you have to leave your car at the airport, book it at the same time to get the best deal and organised.

Set a reminder to check in online. Ideally, only bring a carry-on bag if you do not want to waste any time waiting for a checked in bag.

Make sure to plan your route when you land at your destination. Book a transfer or get a taxi, depending on your budget.

If you can, pay the extra to get priority boarding. This may sound like an unnecessary luxury but the ease and comfort of boarding will help.

If you have the budget, book a hotel near the airport the night before. This will give you the time to get a good sleep, have breakfast and be at the airport in plenty of time.

Wear light, loose and comfortable clothing to remain relaxed while travelling. Flying can dry out your skin and body so remain hydrated. Top up on fluids 24 hours before and after you fly and make sure to drink as much water as you can when in the air. You will land feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Ensure your devices are fully charged in case you need to make calls when you land, or want to watch a device mid-journey.

All of these small changes will make a huge difference to your stress levels while travelling.
