Travelling alone may be liberating and stress-free but that does not mean you are not immune to the dangers that lurk in every city. Unfortunately, this is especially true for women.
While most women enjoy safe trips, there are some that come face-to-face with real danger. There are simply some countries that are now unsafe for women to visit. India, Brazil and Turkey are often noted as the top three most unsafe countries to visit, with Egypt, Thailand and South Africa also on that list.
Here are some of the safest cities for women to travel to;

- Reykjavik, Iceland. Now with regular flights direct from Ireland, Reykjavik is a beautiful and safe city to visit. There are plenty or organised excursions to visit the many tourist spots dotted around the small island, with a high chance of seeing the Northern Lights on your trip.
- Tokyo, Japan. An increasingly popular choice for solo travellers, Tokyo offers something unique for visitors. Voted the safest city in the world, Tokyo also has the added bonus of an abundance of temples and wonderful architecture with the culture, sights and beauty of the city making it a must-do on anyone’s list.
- Amsterdam, Netherlands. A short hop from Dublin, Amsterdam ranks fifth in the Economist’s list of top 25 safest cities in the work. With female-only hostels, you can safely visit the red light district, take a canal tour and embrace the unique offering of the city.
