Beauty | Why the blender is the new brush

Blend is the new buzzword in the beauty world as more people embrace the egg shaped sponge to apply foundation. So, what is so hot about it?

Every so often a new innovation makes its way up the beauty chain that has us all in a panic. Last year, it was all about having the right brush for every part of our face. If you don’t have the right foundation brush, they said, your makeup will simply not go on properly.

Today, it’s all about the blender applicator. It is, according to beauty experts and our own WW team, the easiest and most seamless way to blend a product into our skin for a flawless complexion.

However, as with all beauty gadgets, there is a right way and a wrong way to use. Here is how to do it like a pro!

  • Wet the sponge until it is completely saturated. Squeeze out the excess water and dab it into your makeup.
  • Do not pump out the foundation directly on the sponge. Squeeze out a dab onto your hand or mirror.
  • Dip the round bottom end into your foundation and apply to your skin in small, gentle strokes. There is no need to apply much pressure, the sponge will do most of the work for you. This motion blends while depositing makeup, which creates that flawless look.
  • Use the pointed tip to get into those awkward nook and crannies such as under the eyes, around the nose, along the lips or on blemishes.
  • For a natural flush, repeat on the apples of your cheeks with your cream blush.

There are many different blenders on the market, varying in price and quality. Its use, however, justifies its investment if you opt for a more expensive one. For example, you can use it to apply SPF to your face.

Happy blending!
