Many women suffer some pain from period cramps for a day or two each month. While not a serious condition, they can have a serious impact on your lifestyle and well being.

  • Try fish oil and vitamin B1. Participants in a study that consumed fish oil, B1, or both had significantly less period pain than those that didn’t.
  • Try acupuncture. Many people that suffer from bad pain use acupuncture as a means to relax the nervous system. This treatment is also thought to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Safe over-the-counter medication. Not everyone likes using medicine to soothe period cramps, but moderate use of painkillers can help. They can also help decrease overall inflammation and pain.
  • Try a heating pad. Applied heat is just as effective as over the counter medicine for period cramps, according to a study.
  • Boost your endorphins. While also having a positive pain-relieving effect, endorphins can also boost your mood. Studies have found that both aerobic and stretching helps soothe period cramps.
  • Increase the magnesium in your diet. Getting more magnesium can help ease the pain of cramps which can be sourced from supplements or foods. Magnesium helps regulate nerve and muscle functioning.
