Music| Chart Topping Hits as Gaeilge

Us Irish like nothing more than a good sing song, and with the week that’s in it, we decided to take a look at some of the best Irish covers of popular chart topping songs.

Aine Ni Bhrollaigh

Derry native, Aine Ni Bhrollaigh, took Adele’s hit single I Can’t Make You Love Me and made it her own when she put an Irish spin on the song. She recorded the track for BBC recently, and we’ve had it on repeat ever since. Hopefully Aine has more covers like this up her sleeve to share with the world soon!

Chris Duffy and Dave Gallagher

Chris Duffy and David Gallagher from Castlebar have been wowing the masses on Youtube with their Irish covers. Their most recent post sees the duo covering Ed Sheeran’s number one single Thinking Out Loud. Bearing in mind the spectacular reaction the pair have received for the video, we’re sure there’ll be plenty more videos just like this appearing on their Youtube profile very soon.

The Coronas

So okay, we may be cheating a bit with this one but it’s too good not to include. The Coronas are a firm favourite here in Woman’s Way HQ and you’ll understand why when you hear their Irish version of Heroes or Ghosts. It’s just incredible!

Colaiste Lurgan

Colaiste Lurgan launched into the spotlight a few months back when some students in the college decided to sing Wake Me Up by Avicii as Gaeilge. The video has since been viewed over 4 million times online and received recognition from all over the world. Since the success of Wake Me Up, the college has uploaded countless other covers with their own original spin on them. For some reason we don’t think this is the last we’ll see of these guys…

J.J. O Dochartaigh

Another Derry singer wowing us today with their Irish talent, is J.J. O Dochartaigh. JJ is a singer/songwriter who decided to put his stamp on Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. We loved this song before but now we’re obsessed!
