Skerries in North County Dublin has been chosen as Ireland’s Tidiest Town 2016.

The seaside town came out on top of 858 other towns in the competition, sponsored by SuperValu for the last 25 years.

Skerries also won the Irelan’ds Tidiest Largest Town category.

The list of winners was announced at The Helix at Dublin City University in Glasnevin this afternoon.

Other winners include the village of Birdhill, Co Tipperary which has taken home the award of Ireland’s Tidiest Village.

Listowel Co Kerry received the award for Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town for the second time while Ennis Co Clare is officially Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre.

The Tidy Towns competition is run by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
