Our modern lifestyle and bad habits could be adding years to our lives, according to health experts.

Today’s world is full of gadgets and apps aimed at making our lives better and smarter. And while they have to a certain degree, our modern day practices and habits are having an adverse impact on our health and well-being. Or so says the many health gurus.

One of the their big concerns is the fast-tracking of hearing problems thanks to our love of blasting music in our earphones. Listening at high volume for long periods poses a very serious threat to one’s hearing. As such, we need to lower the volume and the length of time we spend with those plugs in our ears.

Our smartphone addiction is also causing havoc with neck injuries. If your head is constantly at a 45-degree angle looking down at your phone, then you could fall victim to a prematurely sagging neckline. If possible, hold the phone up in front of you at eye level.

When we are not spending hours scrolling through our phones, many of us tend to spend as much time hunched over our computers. This can have a negative impact on your long-term health, leading to a tilted pelvis and rounded shoulders. Try to be more conscious of your posture at work by moving around more and exercising outside of work. Ensure your workspace and chair are set out at the right level.

Our inability to get a proper quality night’s sleep could also age us. Our penchant for watching TV or scrolling through our phones right before we sleep has an impact on our sleep pattern. It is for this reason why so many experts advise us not to bring technology into the bedroom, or shut it down completely close to bedtime.

Obviously, our love of processed and fast food does nothing for our love of the anti-aging process. The refined sugar in such foods can damage our skin’s collagen, while it can also add to weight gain. Instead, opt for foods that have a positive impact on our skin such Omega-3 rich foods including fish, nuts and avocados.
