If you’re a cat lover (or dog lover, for that matter) this is one story that just might inspire you to start taking your furry friend with you wherever you go.

Captain Liz Clark is an environmental activist and a surfer (and a self-described she-pirate) and has been sailing around the world for the past 10 years in her 11 by 40 foot boat. But she hasn’t been doing it alone as she has had her pet cat alongside her for company all the way. The pair share their adventures with the world through Instagram, having gained almost 74K followers.

The she-pirate found Amelia when the cat was just 6 months old and she has since grown very accustomed to her watery surroundings – even catching fish for dinner on calm evenings. So far the pair have been to parts of the South Pacific (logging more than 18,000 nautical miles) as well as the coasts of Mexico and Central America.
