Travel: Wanderlust Wednesday: Amalfi Coast

Summer holidays are all about escaping your daily life and daydreaming, and what better place to do it than on the stunning Amalfi Coast? The playground of the rich and famous, the Amalfi Coast offers incredible views. Here you’ll find mountains that dip to the sea, beautiful painted towns and some of the best restaurants in the world.

What to see on the Amalfi Coast?
Sorrento –
Sorrento is one of the most well known parts of the coast. Looking over the Bay of Naples, the area is believed to be one of the most striking parts. Here you’ll find an ancient town centre and a beautiful harbour. Don’t miss the Piazza Tasso – a square lined with cafes that’s perfect for people-watching.

Positano – The place to go for romance. Here you’ll find beautiful cobble-stone-lined streets and the Sentiero degli Di hiking trail which links it to other towns on the coast. Positano is one of the most popular destinations for honeymoons and weddings, so it’s the perfect place to visit with your other half.

Pompeii – You can’t visit the Amalfi Coast without taking a trip to the ancient city of Pompeii. Pompeii is one of Europe’s most well-known historical sites and was buried in ash and pumice after the volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD

When to visit?
The best time to see the Amalfi Coast is between April and June. Travelling during this time you’re likely to get the best of the weather and if you travel in spring, you’ll see the beautiful flowers the area is known for in bloom. Given that the area is popular with tourists, if you want to avoid the crowds, it’s worth opting for a visit in late spring or very early summer.
