What to Write in a Sympathy Card

If you’re finding it difficult to come up with the right thing to say in a sympathy card, you’re not the only one. It can be challenging to find appropriate words to offer support, comfort, and empathy. And even though a card can’t take away the pain of losing a loved one, it can go a long way toward helping a grieving person feel loved and supported.

Here are 12 messages for you to use or adapt:

/ Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to hold forever in your heart.

/ Hold tight to memories for comfort, lean on your friends and family for strength, and always remember how much you are loved.

/ Although no words can help ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

/ There is nothing I can say to take away your hurt, but you have my shoulder to cry on and my loving hugs. Know that I will be here for you when you need me.

/ As the days pass, I hope you find comfort and support in the people that surround you and the wonderful memories you carry in your mind and in your heart.

/ May your heart find peace and tranquility through the healing power of love, hope, and light, today and always.

/ Whatever soothes your spirit, comforts your soul and brings you peace ... that is what is wished for you at this difficult time.

/ May the love of friends and family soften your sadness, cherished memories bring you moments of comfort, and lasting peace surround your grieving heart.

/ Words will not wipe away your tears, and hugs may not ease the pain, but hold onto your memories because forever they will remain.

/ We pray the love of God enfolds you during your journey through grief. We send you thoughts of comfort.

/ If your pain could be taken away, we would do just that, just to show how sorry we are.

/ My heart goes out to you and your family. Although I don’t know exactly what to say, I want you to know that I am with you in thought, and wish you comfort and peace as you remember (name).
