Gearoid from Cork lost nearly three stone with a low carb diet

What’s the one thing about weight loss that you wish people understood?Measuring calories doesn’t work because it takes no account of hunger or satiety. On the other hand, if you eat maximally satisfying, natural food, not baked goods etc. you will be satisfied on fewer calories, you won’t overeat and you’ll lose weight..

What advice would you have for anyone out there who wants to embark on a healthy lifestyle change?Don’t dive in. Read about it first. You can lose weight eating a very low fat diet (which is tasteless and horrible) or by eating a high-fat, low carb diet which can be quite delicious. The great advantage of low carb is that it crushes hunger. You mustn’t tempt yourself on it though as bad food is deliberately made moreish by the fiendish food manufacturers. Think cakes, biscuits, chips etc. Research has shown that such stuff makes you want to eat 500 calories more a day. That’s a hell of a lot in a year.
