Tell our readers about the background to Skingredients
I have been lucky to work for and alongside some of the world’s best skincare brands throughout my career, the people who have revolutionised the industry, essentially. One of the most important factors when it comes to skincare is education, in my opinion. Skingredients was created to make it easy for hoomans (aka humans) to use results-driven, active skincare and simultaneously understand why they’re using it and how best to use it.
I believe that education is the path towards empowerment, and for many, they don’t feel confident in their skin. When people use Skingredients and see results and begin to feel better in their skin, that is what we’re all about so it means a lot to receive the messages and emails and reviews to that extent.
The Nerd Network online skin consultations and membership community had been active for two years prior to the launch of Skingredients, so we made sure to properly listen to what people were saying about what they wanted from skincare. Easily available offline and online, step-by-step, full of proven ingredients and free from fragrance... We included this feedback when we were creating and formulating the range.
What’s the most consistent bestseller and why do you think that is?
Would you believe that it’s Skin Shield SPF 50? If I’m honest, I’m just so proud. In general, we’re not a country that are great for SPF, or at least we weren’t, so I adore that Skin Shield is our most consistent bestseller.
With Skin Shield, I wanted it to be an SPF that would be an absolute dream to use whilst also providing a high level, broad spectrum of protection. It’s oil-free and non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t clog pores and lead to SPF-related breakouts. It’s lightly moisturising so feels comfortable on the skin and primes for makeup. It’s dewy rather than mattifying so it doesn’t steal your glow or make you look powdery. It has a peachy tint so it works with a wider array of skin tones and doesn’t have photo flashback. I think the wearability of Skin Shield speaks for itself.
What’s the most surprising thing a customer would not know about Skingredients?
I feel a customer may not know about the extensive testing, the research into manufacturing across the globe, the dedication that it took to go from an idea to the formulas, to testing and to finding retail partners. We have put a lot behind launching #ProjectLoveYourSkin, an emotional campaign that reiterates our philosophy that is all about the “hooman” using the skincare and the feelings they have about their own skin.
What’s your favourite product and why?
Why must you ask me this! It is a very difficult choice. Honestly, my personal favourite changes all the time depending on what my skin needs – for example, in the colder months, Skin Good Fats becomes a daily and nightly staple. I’m going to have to say Skin Veg because everyone can use it and everyone can see the benefits both instantly with the hydration and brightening and long-term with the antioxidants and pro-collagen peptide. It’s nearly always the makeup artist favourite too, because it helps to provide such a plump, bouncy, glowy base. Vitamin A is key in a skincare routine, so Skin Protein is always a favourite of mine, and SPF is also integral, so Skin Shield is too... Cheeky of me!
