Forever Young

Whether it’s good genes or good doctors, we often see our favourite celebrities ageing gracefully – or hardly at all. Take a look at these 6 Hollywood stars and their secrets for looking forever young…

Michelle Pfeiffer

How does Michelle Pfeiffer look so fabulous at 63? Well, Pfeiffer swears by eating well, exercising and lots and lots of sleep. The golden trio. Pfeiffer’s eating habits have changed over the years but she has mainly stuck to a clean eating plan. For many years she was vegan and said cutting out meat and toxins that can age your body and skin was a huge help to her looking fresh. She noticed a difference in her skin not long after she began eating a plant-based diet. In recent years, Pfeiffer has swapped to a Paleo diet, full of lean meat and veggies, and drinks at least two litres of water a day. And healthy eating aside, she also exercises daily.

Pfeiffer is an early riser (reportedly waking as early as three am sometimes) and is the lucky owner of a great at-home gym, fully equipped with treadmills and reformer pilates machines to keep her looking in shape. Pfeiffer says she has not had any plastic surgery but that’s not to say she’s against it for the future:

"Sometimes I think about it, sometimes I don’t. It depends on how well I'm lit. It depends on my makeup and all kinds of things.”

Lucy Liu

There are three things Lucy Liu says she swears by that help her look and feel her best: acupuncture, organic eating and 'SoulCycle'. Acupuncture is known for improving sleep, a form of pain relief, giving a sense of wellbeing and is a big must in Liu’s routine. “I splurge on acupuncture. It’s preventative medicine. You go in once a month, and you get a little checkup so you’re regulated. It keeps you healthy”, she said in the past. Liu has also ditched her vegan lifestyle recently, swapping it for vegetarianism instead and adding eggs and cheese back into her diet for lean protein.

SoulCycle has taken the states by storm over the past couple of years. It’s a full-body indoor cycling workout that incorporates upper body exercises.

Liu enjoys a 20-minute class on her bike at home. “It helps get the engine running”, Liu says. “It wakes up the body and the mind.”

Julianne Moore

At 60 years old, Julianne Moore continues to stun with her porcelain skin and Oscar-winning acting.

For Moore, it seems making 60 look like 30 is effortless. There are a few things this actress does to keep up appearances, one being the religious use of SPF: “Sunscreen is my numberone thing. I've worn it every day since I was 23,” Moore revealed. She also avoids any high-sodium food items, such as sushi, before red carpets and photoshoots as her face can puff up.

Moore is also a stickler for nighttime skincare routines and she never misses hers. Cleanser, eye cream and moisturiser is applied every night before bed. Knowing what works for your skin is also a big help.

“Alpha hydroxy acids work really well with my skin—but I have to stay away from retinoids; they are too powerful for me,” Moore admits. She is also partial to microcurrent facials and is a client of Hollywood-based celebrity facialist, Joanna Vargas.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is 57 years old and absolutely thriving. Bullock works with celebrity trainer Simone De La Rue for cardio and core workouts, sometimes as early as five am daily. Skipping ropes and resistance bands are some of De La Rue’s favourite workout tools to use during their sessions. Bullock also prefers to eat lean proteins and like most celebs, keeps her overall diet fairly clean. It’s reported that Bullock sticks to her clean lifestyle six days a week but allows herself one day to indulge in chocolate and sweet treats if she wishes. A healthy, balanced lifestyle works wonders for keeping Bullock in tip-top shape - mentally and physically. Bullock dismisses the idea of plastic surgery but has admitted to using the EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor) serum by celebrity beautician Georgia Louise and other remedies.

The controversial EGF serum treatment has also been used by Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone.

Jennifer Aniston

At 53 Jennifer Aniston’s great skin is partly to do with good genes from her dad, who is 100% Greek and barely has a wrinkle at 88. She also understands the importance of looking after your skin from the inside out: “Because this is the only body we're given, we need to be really good and mindful of what we eat and how we take care of our skin—getting a good night's sleep is extremely important, as is hydrating with lots of water. It's so important to get that extra glow.” Speaking of water, Aniston has been a spokesperson for ‘SmartWater’ for over a decade, reportedly drinking just under three litres every day. She is also a fan of microcurrent facials which she described as “like a little workout for your face”. Aniston is a fan of infrared saunas, one of which she has in her home. “It's such a game-changer in terms of your skin detoxification and cell rejuvenation. So, I do it a couple times a week right after I go to the gym. I've noticed a real change in my energy, my sleep, and my skin." Aniston explains.

Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda is still looking amazing at 83. A fitness sensation throughout the 1980s, Fonda graced our screens on DVD’s wearing neon leg warmers and spandex. Since then, she has candidly spoken about the trials and tribulations she has overcome since her younger years.

She struggled with her body image and bulimia, which lasted from her teens until her 40s. And in 2019, Fonda was open about her health battles. “I’ve had a lot of cancer.” She told Vogue. “I was a sun-worshipper.” Now, Fonda still finds time to exercise, going on daily walks and resistance training while keeping her training programs age-appropriate to avoid injury. She also prefers working and keeping busy, choosing not to retire. Fonda also keeps up with her passions outside of work like Fire Drill Fridays where she leads protests for climate change.
