Not ready to say goodbye to the lime greens, electric pinks or prismatic purples that fuelled your hot girl summer? Maybe you don’t have to! With the sweet sounds of ice cream vans becoming fainter by the day, and the slow realisation that the school year is eagerly lurking around the corner, we’re counting down the top 5 Autumn/Winter trends that might just take your breath (and money) away. Moyah Flanagan reports.

1. First and foremost, let’s talk colour. After 14 long months of being locked away, you best believe we’re reinventing the colour wheel this fall. Dark and monotone colours have well and truly been left in lockdown 2.0 and in their place are big, bold, and bright colours. In particular, lime green and lavender purple are coming to the forefront to add a bit of seventies sass to this September season.

2. Now let’s get down to the knitty-gritty. Literally. Knitwear is landing in hotter than the temperatures in Ireland recently and we are more than here for it. Midi knit dresses, sleeveless sweater knit vests and ribbed knit cardigans are most definitely the iconic trio coming in knit-hot this September. Of course, Zara and Other Stories will soon have their rails flooded with chunky and most definitely funky knits that will keep us looking and feeling hot this Winter.

3. Although the idea of wearing a jacket right now may be slightly nauseating, you will be happy to know that the A/W season is bringing us chic but practical options for layering in the forms of puffers, faux-fur jackets, and quilted coats. Don’t get me wrong, this fall is putting its own ‘2021’ unpredictable but nevertheless exciting swing on these old reliables by adding a bit of patterned spice (think leopard and tartan print).

4. Although some of us may be a little reluctant to hang up the sweatpants and kick off the sliders, there is an undeniable desire in many of us to get our glam on this September season. Luckily for us, sheer, satin, and silk are the trending fabrics this A/W, that will no doubt help us to seamlessly slip into the new season.

5. Last, but certainly not least, we have patterned tights on our fashion agenda. Forget about your 80 denier opaque tights that could single handedly blackout the sun, moon, and stars. This fall we’re taking stockings to a whole new level with pretty patterns, sexy swirls, and dainty designs, we promise, your legs will never have looked so good.
