Beauty Trends
Prepare to mix up your makeup routine and make a statement this autumn. Here are 5 of our favourite AW beauty trends.
Autumn means new beauty trends at the makeup counters with plenty of surprises in store. Deep berry lips, neon popping eye-shadow, peachy blushers and all things eyes - from loaded lashes to deep wing eye-liner. Metallics have been trending in fashion and silvers and gold feature on eyes and lips. Brows stay natural and full with soap shaping still in vogue. Skin is still light and dewy with minimal contouring extending the lockdown natural look into the winter months.
The focus in beauty remains strong on skincare regimes that are proactive in protection and prevention.
Bright Colours
Neon pops and bright colours are back and if there is one colour to choose - it’s blue. Orange, yellows, pinks and lime green all featured on the AW runway but if you are still clinging on to those neutral shades then pop a bit of trending metalica in silver or gold to update the look.
HOW TO>> Apply an eyeshadow primer before applying any bright coloured eyeshadow, pigment or cream. It will help with a smooth application and longevity. Pack the shade on the lid using a flat brush before lightly blending it into the crease.
Soap Brows
Fluffy brows are back, and the bigger the better. The great thing about this trend is the inclusivity - sparse, fair brows look more full and bold with just a swipe of a spoolie while bold brows become tamed and frame the face. And what’s better is this trend started out being done with a classic Pears soap, so no need to buy any fancy product. You can use any gentle, translucent soap.
HOW TO>>
Dampen a spoolie and swipe through the soap to coat. Apply to the brow by brushing in an upward motion through each part of the brow. If you have any gaps, take a brow pencil close to your natural hair colour and draw fine strokes to mimic brow hairs.
Berry Lips
Bold, berry shades are in this autumn. Think deep burgundy wine colours to blend with autumn russet shades.
HOW TO>>
Make sure you line your lips before applying any lipstick, as colour-rich shades can bleed. Apply with a small lipstick brush for a precise application and remember to blot.
Blush
There was a brief period in time when everyone went mad and blush became uncool. It’s now back with a bang, in peachy hues and bright pinks for a wind-swept flush. I find that blush is one of the first things to fade on the face, so packing a little extra on with a dense blusher brush is great for a longer wear time.
HOW TO>> Take a fluffy blusher brush and swipe through your blush. Apply to the apples of the cheeks as well as lightly to the top of the cheekbone to elongate the face.
All About The Eyes
Loaded lashes, deep wing liner and the ‘reverse kitten-eye’ are all trending this fall. Eye liners, especially blue, feature on AW runways.
HOW TO>> For the reverse kitten -eye, take your favourite pencil eyeliner, any colour, and apply it to your lower lash line and bring it slightly up, past the outer corner of the eye.
Take a similar eyeshadow shade on a fluffy brush and blend, blend, blend. Make sure to blend upwards, once you reach the outer corner of your eye which will give the look the ‘cat eye’ effect.
