Springtime Makeup

Warmer weather means glowing skin, flushed cheeks and neutral eyes should be on your beauty radar right now. Rachel Spillane shares her favourite springtime makeup tips and products…

Spring has arrived so it’s time to ditch our heavy-duty foundations in favour of softer, lighter coverage creams that make us look as though we’re glowing from within.

Cream blush and bronzer are at the forefront of springtime beauty routines too, with so peaches and pinks for the cheeks that gives skin a natural flush.

If you feel you truly need a fuller coverage foundation to hide any scarring, blemishes or hyperpigmentation - let me introduce you to the power of spot concealing. Using a full-coverage concealer - a similar shade to your skin tone - lightly dab the product on top of any imperfections you want covered and blend with a clean brush.

Then, buy a CC cream (CC creams are colour correctors with light coverage) into the skin with a large fluffy brush. With this layering technique, you can create a flawless base without looking cakey. Before using any setting powder and while the foundation is slightly tacky, apply a cream blush to the apples of your cheeks. I like using my fingers for this step as the warmth from my hands will help the blush melt into the skin. Instead of setting the whole face, dab a small amount of powder on your T-Zone or any area that you become oily throughout the day.

This will minimise shine without taking away your glow.

Forget brow pomades, use a pencil or tinted brow gel on your eyebrows to avoid your brows from becoming too intense. Spring makeup is so and feminine, so it’s all about accentuating your features rather than changing them.

Finally, a so sweep of bronzer around the face should warm the skin up nicely and while you’re at it, blend a small amount of bronzer into the crease of your eyes to add some depth.

Follow with waterproof mascara (let’s steer clear of sweat-induced mascara tears) and your favourite hydrating lip balm or tint and you’re ready to go.
