Beauty Faves
What are the products the Woman’s Way crew use on repeat? In this issue, deputy editor Carissa Casey is going clean and light.
Keeping it Clean
As I’ve aged, I find I spend as much, if not more, time and money on skincare than makeup. My current obsession is clean skin. Having a tendency towards oiliness, I find my pores have become a hell of a lot more noticeable with the passing of years. Keeping them ultra clean is one way to reduce their appearance.
I’ve recently discovered two excellent tools from My Skincare (myskincare.ie), an Irish-owned beauty brand. I’ve been using their Pro Facial Steamer (€129) twice a week and find it’s helped with hydration as well as keeping those pores as tight as possible. It’s a doddle to set up and the steam it produces is gentle and light yet still does the job. I’m also loving their Facial Cleansing Brush (€59) every night with a range of different cleansers. Aside from leaving my skin feeling thoroughly clean, it’s neat and comes with its own holder which sits nicely by my sink.
Naturally Irish
Another fabulous Irish brand combining biotechnology with natural skincare is Seabody (seabody.ie). It harvests seaweed, takes out all the good stuff and delivers them in a range of both skincare products and health supplements. My favourite at the moment is their Aquasurge Day Serum (€50) which Glycan Enrich Moisturiser (€65). Both products are super hydrating and leave my skin glowing. They are available to buy in Brown Thomas. Arnotts and on their website.
No Makeup Makeup
As any dermatologist will tell you, the best thing you can do for your skin is to wear SPF. For those days when I’m doing little more than sitting at a computer with maybe an exciting trip to the supermarket thrown in, I wear the Avene Tinted Fluid SPF 50+ (€21.50). It smooths out my skin tone and provides uber protection not just from the sun’s rays but pollution and even the radiation from my computer screen (that’s a thing I recently learned).
My oily t-zone usually means I have to dust over some powder as well and my go-to for a while now has been the Nars Light Reflecting Powder(€39)
All the Single Ladies
Some beauty products are life-changing and the NX Glow Velvet Back and Body Self Tan Mitt (€13.50, visit next.ie) is one of them. This ingenious gem looks a bit like oven gloves but don’t be fooled. A bit like (just a bit like, mind) how the contraceptive pill freed women from endless childbirth, this allows single ladies and those whose fellas moan about ‘doing their back’ with fake tan, the freedom to do it themselves.
My favourite sunless tan product at the moment is the He-shi Express Liquid Tan (€19.50), which not surprisingly has won several awards. It goes on so easily and there’s not even a hint of orange.
Bronze Goddess
It’s all in the name. Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess range looks as beautiful as it sounds and the products are perfect for sizzling eyes and summer scent. The perfume has a lovely coconut-y scent and the eye palette is perfect for holidays with a colour and texture range that works for both day and sizzling night.
