Quickfire Q&A - King of Beauty Business
Hailing from County Down, Brendan McDowell founded BPerfect Cosmetics in 2013, a brand which creates easy-to-use and versatile cosmetics from makeup to faux tan. Brendan is also a founder of Voduz Hair and director of Mrs Glam by Michelle Regazolli Stone.
What’s the best thing that happened to you in the last month?
My sister has gotten pregnant after a long time of trying. Everything is looking really positive and healthy.
When are you most inspired?
Whenever I’m on holiday and have time to think. That’s when I get the majority of my inspiration because I’m out of the daily grind and can think clearly.
What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
When my Mum says she’s proud of me.
What is something you can’t do?
Spreadsheets. I can’t even look at them. They give me a sore head!
What makes you laugh no matter what?
Modern Family. There’s a same-sex couple on the show who has a daughter which has really inspired me to start a family of my own too.
What does creativity mean to you?
Taking inspiration from other leaders, other people, and turning that inspiration into something creative.
Never leave the house without?
My phone. I am literally glued to it.
What is something you will not be doing in ten years?
Panicking about the business.
What is an important life lesson for someone to learn?
That you won’t get anything in life unless you go out and work for it.
What do you do on a rainy day?
Hide in a pub, go to the gym, or chill out at home.
What’s your favourite exercise?
Running and weights at the gym.
What was your worst subject in school?
All of them! I didn’t do very well in school at all.
When you were 12, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An International DJ.
Name one thing you’ve learned the hard way?
In business, you must be all over your finances. Strong sales and finance are the two most important things in business.
How do you manage stress?
Running, going to the gym, and listening to positive podcasts.
If you could make a documentary about anything what would it be?
We are actually making a documentary at the moment about BPerfect Cosmetics. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at the growth of the company, how we started and all of the hard work that goes into getting us to where we are today
