Spring clean

The long, sunny days are almost upon us and with that comes picnics in the garden, having a kick-about with dad, and evening drinks as the sun goes in. While we’re all looking forward to spending family time in the garden this spring, the potential threat of spring stains wreaking havoc on your laundry could put a spanner in the works.

From spilt strawberries down the front of a lovely white blouse, or vivid green grass stains from celebrating a garden goal during a lockdown football session, spring comes with plenty of opportunity for clothes chaos!

Cleaning and laundry experts Dr. Beckmann have identified the top five spring stains you’re bound to encounter whilst enjoying the sun, and how to prevent a summer meltdown when it comes to the laundry.

TOP FIVE SPRING STAINS

Grass

The dreaded summer grass stain is the stuff of nightmares for parents with active kids, but Dr. Beckmann’s Stain Devils Nature & Cosmetics range is here to help. Treat the stain as soon as possible – fresh stains are always easier to remove as they have not yet set into the fabric. Dealing with marks immediately also guarantees that you remember what the stain was so you’ll be better prepared to treat it.

Wine

Most of us like to enjoy an evening tipple in the garden but wine can soon turn from friend to foe when it gets spilt. If you have an unfortunate wine spillage, make sure you blot the alcohol with a cloth until the liquid is absorbed. Then sponge with cold water. Dr. Beckmann’s Stain Devils Fruit & Drink remover is great to have in the cupboard ready and waiting!

Fruit

A rogue strawberry down your front can turn a garden picnic from sweet to sour but don’t let it ruin the afternoon! Dab at the stain to stop it from spreading and to also reduce the risk of fibre damage, then use a stain remover to treat the mark from the wrong side of the fabric. Your strawberry-smeared blouse will be as good as new!

Sauces

There’s no better time to light the barbie than when the sun comes out, but a relaxed family BBQ can soon lead to a condiment catastrophe. Overdoing the ketchup on your hot dog can result in greasy sauce stains that can be difficult to get rid of. The Dr Beckmann Stain Devils Fats & Sauces is ideal for removing tough stains such as ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce from clothing. If you find after dabbing the garment there is still a slight stain, a top tip is to soak the stained area in a bowl of water or run under the tap and the stain should disappear.

Suncream

As the days get warmer, it is important to remember to protect skin from harsh UV rays. But what about when the suncream starts to transfer onto your clothing? Often it can leave a greasy, oil-based stain that settles deep into the fibres of the fabric. Use a stain remover or white vinegar as a pre-treatment to break down the oily residue then wash on a hot temperature to finish the job.

On the top tips to help garden-goers this spring, Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor said: “When the days get longer, and the UK get its first glimpse of sun, it is easy to get carried away with the garden activities and run the risk of a few laundry mishaps. However, at Dr. Beckmann we offer a wide range of products to help with any spring stains, meaning families can make the most of the weather and not have to worry about ruining their clothes.”
