Sophie Hannah’s most treasured reads

Marrying The Ugly Millionaire (Carcanet 2015)

These are my Collected Poems, and they mean the world to me. I write very personal poetry about relationships that hopefully everyone can relate to. They rhyme, scan and make sense! This book is like my autobiography in verse and reminds me of some heartbreaks, struggles and funny incidents that made me who I am today.

Little Face (Hodder 2006)

My first published crime novel. I’m so proud of it! It was a huge endeavour trying to finish it and get it published while looking after two children under two years old! Luckily, I found a brilliant publisher for it and it became a surprise word of mouth bestseller both in the UK and abroad. It has an Agatha Christie-ish impossible-mystery plot hook: a new mum is convinced that the baby in her house is not her own, and accuses her husband of swapping their baby for another baby. But why would he do such a thing?

The Mystery Of Three Quarters - a Hercule Poirot mystery (HarperCollins 2018)

This is the third of my new Hercule Poirot novels, written at the request of Agatha Christie's family. All three have been UK and international bestsellers, and I think this one is probably the best. Agatha Christie is my crime writing heroine, and this book is my latest love letter to her.

How To Hold A Grudge (Hodder, 2018)

My first self-help book! Before I wrote it, not one single book existed on the specific topic of grudges. It’s very exciting to be the world's only Grudge Guru! The premise of my book is that when we welcome, nurture and understand our grudges they can be beneficial, for us and others, allowing us to be more forgiving and optimistic. My How to Hold a Grudge podcast is now in its 3rd series and is available on all good podcast platforms.

Haven't They Grown (Hodder, 2020)

This is my latest standalone thriller and I love its hook so much. Beth sees her ex-best friend, Flora, after 12 years of no contact. Flora looks older, as Beth would have expected. But Flora's children are with her – Thomas and Emily, who were 5 and 3 years old when Beth last saw them more than a decade ago. And...today, 12 years later, they appear still to be 5 and 3 years old. They haven't changed at all. They are no taller, no older. Why haven't they grown? I loved writing this book so much - both the twisty, unpredictable plot and the satisfying solution to the mystery that I hope readers will love!
