Star Letter -

The time has come!

This time last year, I was delighted to receive a birthday present from my sister of a year's subscription to Woman’s Way. I find it hard to imagine that the year has flown so fast.  I was feeling a bit sad to think that I will not be getting this magazine by post anymore.  No more opportunities to enter the competition's and read interesting articles. Then, I decided to give myself a treat. I paid for the subscription myself and so, I can continue to enjoy this great gift. In this time of living with the pandemic (by the way, I am a front line worker) we all deserve something for ourselves. Hopefully this year I might win a weekend away or something equally nice. Thanks for a brilliant magazine and I look forward to reading it for another year.

Eileen Dunne

I often think about how hard it must have been for broadcasters during the pandemic, and in particular, the first lockdown. There was a lot of uncertainty and fear around this time and when the ‘lockdown’ was first announced, the name didn’t sound particularly positive. Seeing Eileen Dunne on our screens was the one constant I truly appreciated. I have a lot of respect for her, especially after reading about her trips to the supermarket and being bombarded with questions. It couldn’t have been easy! I hope she gets her staycation with her mum in Co Down sometime soon. Well done Eileen!

A pur-fect read!

Miley the cat enjoyed the recent article ‘Money Talks’ by Laura Whitmore. She could not believe that up until 1976 women had very little financial rights, to the point they could not even have a bank account in their own names.

Embracing Change

Dr Harry Barry’s article on embracing change couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m recently retired, after 39 years of working for the same company, and I don’t know how I feel about it. After having the same Mon-Fri routine for so long, I feel a bit aimless. The pandemic hasn’t helped either. I think what bothers me most is not knowing if I’m sad or excited, or both! I’m really looking forward to doing Dr Harry’s exercise in my notebook and taking a pragmatic approach to the situation. I know thousands are in the same boat as me, which makes me feel like I’m not alone in this new chapter in my life.

Going Green

I have recently begun re-decorating my home and it never occurred to me before to incorporate green as an accent colour, that was until I read your piece on green interiors. The majority of the walls in my house are painted either cream or white and so I need a pop of colour. After reading this article, I became inspired to add pops of green throughout my home. I purchased a number of the products mentioned in this piece and my home now sports a beautiful and fresh look throughout. I always take great inspiration from the interiors section of Woman’s Way and this was a definite favourite feature of mine.

Kate Mosse

I have always been a big fan of Kate Mosse’s work and was delighted to see her feature in Woman’s Way magazine. This piece was warm and full of love, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Kate’s close relationship with her 90-year-old mother-in-law, Granny Rosie. I had a remarkably close relationship with my own mother-in-law who passed away a year ago and so reading this gorgeous article brought a tear to my eye. Another successful piece from the team at Woman’s Way!

Skin Minimalism

Before the pandemic, I had a six-step skincare routine and I would have done it twice daily with no exceptions. Now thinking back on it, I can’t believe the notions! Not to mention all of the money I must have wasted on products. Every day there is a new cult favourite facial oil or cleanser. Reading your article on Skin Minimalism made me realise how important it is to bring it back to basics. I have cut my skincare regime down to four steps: cleanser, toner, moisturiser and SPF during the day. My skin looks great, my bathroom cabinet has more space and I have a few extra bob to spend. Happy days!

Gift Guide

Loved seeing the self-love gift guide in the last issue of Woman’s Way. I never need an excuse to treat my friends or family, but I struggle with spoiling myself. This has inspired me to make the best of what we have left of 2021, and give myself the things I have secretly been coveting. I’m hoping to get up to BT’s in the next few weeks and what better place to start than the home of luxury. A trip to the Chanel boutique is definitely on the cards.

Recipes

I was really surprised to see how delicious the vegetarian recipes looked in the latest issue of Woman’s Way. The aubergine and goat’s cheese burger stacks look amazing, especially with the honey drizzle. And the banana chocolate muffins! Wow. I didn’t realise quinoa and sweet potato could make something so yum. My son won’t eat any vegetables so I am constantly playing hide and seek with his veg. These muffins will be perfect. Can’t wait to try my hand at making both of these recipes on Sunday.

Dressing Up

The fashion features are great to see and now that we can go out to dinner, I think people need some overdue style inspiration. I know I do! The coordinate suit sets are really stylish. I think the suit jacket is a great addition to any outfit, to keep the chill away when al-fresco dining in the evening too. While I loved to see the heels, I think I will be sticking to my sandals. I don’t think I could manage more than a few steps in slingbacks. The lace-up platforms from LK Bennett are a great alternative too, they give the same height without being uncomfortable. That’s a win in my book!

Global Style

It was really nice to see your global style article. I love the bohemian look but when I go into the shops I can never find nice pieces for my home. I got great inspiration from seeing the pictures of different rooms and loved every look. I especially loved the hammock outside, with the fabulous throw. I think Aldi just came out with a hammock too! Good timing. With the weather being so nice, I can imagine myself lying out and reading my book. Thanks again for all of the inspiration.
